Geraniums – pelargoniums š – need light and warmth in the morning. I fertilize one of them each day with (bulk) tea leaves from breakfast. Donāt over-water them. They need a little to dry out before watering. When a leaf yellows, I pinch it off and place it on the soil under the plant like mulch. Then in spring I prune them way down.
To multiply:Ā From he pruned pieces I take off all the leaves except for the top (crown). Then in a new pot (or under another big plant) IĀ poke a hole in which I place the cutting. Water them well in the beginning until they look they are growing.Ā
This is how I propagate geraniums:
To make cutting from geraniums for new plants, you need to cut a stem that has a new unfolding leaf on top. I choose the ones that are getting too large and rangy.Ā - Take off all the lower leaves until you have about 1-2 left below the unfolding leaf.
- Make a hole in the soil a finger deep – with your finger or a stick the size of your finger – 2-3 inches, depending on the length of the cutting.
- Place the stem with the unfolding leaf plus 1-2 leaves below in the hole.Press the soil well around it.
